We all love to be rewarded for whatever accomplishment we have made. On the other hand, most of us also fear punishment.
'TIME OUT' is an idea I got from my friend, Woody, who shared his experiences in implementing a 'just punishment' in their household. And, believe me, it is very effective.
This is just simply letting the culprit stand for an hour facing the wall (not an FB wall okay?). A child is impatient by nature and since patience is not measured by the length of waiting but by the behavior while waiting, the feeling of boredom and resentment exponentially multiplies. Aside from preventing us in spanking and nagging them, they are also given the chance to think. Once we sense that they are already becoming restless, then it is time to let them speak, facing the wall still. They can say whatever they want - explain why they misbehave, defend themselves by justifying their fault, say sorry, make promises, and we must listen to every word they say. Allow them to cry if they want to. Letting them face the wall doesn't allow them to see our reactions and facial expressions (smiling, maybe?). Thus, we're safer this way. If what they say is nonsense, pretend not to hear anything and this will make them think of better words to say. We have to wait for those humble and loving words because, whether they like it or not, they have to. Let us bear in mind that they can only be good parents after they have been good children. After their one-hour-agony, never forget to explain why they have been timed out.
All our children are intelligent, just like us. But, we must be smarter. We are all busy people and so, we prefer to continue with what we are doing (washing dishes, sweeping the floor, checking papers, watching TV, but do not go to sleep huh?). So, this is multitasking because at the same time, we teach and implement discipline in the family. When we opt to scold them, we just commit a sin by saying bad and harsh words or by shouting at them and it'll just be shameful when our neighbors hear us. We all know our children and if there is one person who understands them, it's us. It's now time for us to stop hurting them physically. Remember those times we condemn those ants and mosquitoes who bit them when they were still babies? It is part of our duties and responsibilities to protect them, teach them, and not to kill them.
'Time Out' has no strict and fast rule. In fact, we can set our own rules and conditions. Eventually, this punishment will become an SOP and soon they will be asking you if they are 'timed out' once they commit mistakes.
This is a very harmless punishment and an effective way of teaching and implementing discipline too. Let me stress also, that this has no exemption. If we intend to practice justice, then we parents, too, can be timed out once we misbehave. So, we better be careful..

yZaBeLLe's 4TH BiRThDaY..
January 24, 2011
Reanna Yzabelle's 4th birthday!
Despite the hectic schedule, I went home because of the promise I made to celebrate with the whole family..
my PRESENCE!
Dad went home early..
He is Yzabelle's best friend and thus, he knows her most favorite food..
DINNER @ Jollibee..
the FAMILY that prays together,
eats together, and plays together,
STAYS TOGETHER!
with Ate Lianne who sometimes becomes her rival but of course, more of a sister...
a LOLLIPOP...
with Ate Desirel who is always Yzai's kakampi at all times..
who always puts on her make-up, lipstick, and eye liner...
an instant MAKE-OVER...
with Kuya Gab who always makes her cry, shout, and laugh..
oftentimes, they are enemies but they won't last a day without teasing each other..
a GUMMY candy..
We enjoyed the rest of the night strolling and Yzai's birthday was indeed complete...
she had a dinner @ Jollibee, had a mole on her face as she demanded, had a pink lipstick which faded after a few minutes and she wore her favorite pedal which was not zipped up all night...
whew! nevertheless, we were all happy!

Ganito kami sa aming GKK...
our Eucharistic celebration starts at 6 am and we are blessed to have a Passionist Priest as our presider every Sunday..
| with SIL Liturgists and Knights of the Altar |
these are some of the people I miss..
the very few individuals who choose to serve the community despite their hectic schedules..
me and my family were so thankful for the Yuletide 2010 experience as we play the role of St. Joseph and Mother Mary..
a symbolic play worth reflecting for married couples just like us..

mY JaNuARY BaBiEs...
Lianne Genevie was born on January 3, 2002. Liandra (as we call her) is a super lambing daughter. She replicates a beautiful Ilocana, don't she? She dreams of becoming a teacher like me and a singer, too. Her name 'Lianne' was taken from the names of her two grandmas, JuLIANa and NEmia.. the Genevie was taken from St. Genevieve whose feast day falls on the 3rd day of January...
Reanna Yzabelle was born on January 24, 2007. Yzai or Sabel (her most common names) can never be discounted at her young age. Her persistence on things she wants is very evident. I think she is fitted to be a CAT battalion commander in the future. Wanna know why? Her voice is like a thunder, especially when she roars! Her name 'Reanna' was taken from CesaREAN, giNA, and RENAN.. 'Yzabelle' is in honor of St. Elizabeth who has been my inspiration during those difficult times of pregnancy...
Soon, they won't be babies anymore but January Ladies.. they'll be smiling differently, pose better maybe, and for sure, they'd be more lovely, pretty and beautiful..
I'd give my bet!

ChRisT- LikE pEopLe iN a Non-ChRisTian scHoOL
let me share with you my schedule:
September 2010
3 - go back to Iligan
4 - @ 9 am - my second reporting in Management
@ 1 pm - submission of Problem Set No. 3
@ 4 pm - attend Professorial Lecture in Environmental Science
5 - @ 1 pm - make-up class in Management
6 - @ 1 pm - presentation of the solutions to the Problem Sets using MATLAB
September 3, i wasn't able to go back to Iligan because Yzabelle was admitted. i felt so worried. all the while i was in the hospital, i was thinking of my requirements and the deadlines. i informed my classmates and my professors and i was so touched with their reactions through texts and phone calls..
GIN, FAMILY FIRST. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DAUGHTER. EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY. WE ARE AND WE WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOUR BABY. BE STRONG. COME BACK JUST AS SOON AS YOUR DAUGHTER IS WELL.
September 11, i was welcomed with questions : HOW ARE YOU? HOW'S YOUR BABY? doubled with statements such as: YOU CAN SUBMIT LATER. DON'T WORRY, WE UNDERSTAND. YOUR REASON IS VALID.. even without the doctor's certificate.. it feels so good to be supported by people who barely knew me for three months!
i remember the time when i was still undecided to enroll at IIT. i had so many fears. mahirap daw sa IIT. terror ang mga professors. mahirap gumradweyt. matatalino ang mga teachers kasi sa abroad nagtapos. in short, very discouraging..
let me tell you these: some are true. they are all intelligent indeed and earned their degrees outside the country. they teach well. but one thing that i have discovered, they are all very humble. you can never see their degrees pasted on their foreheads. their hearts are larger than their brains. i was very thankful because i was made to realize that not all intelligent people have a heart of stone. i even felt smaller after knowing that their salaries are twice (or thrice) than ours. they are happy people, radiating positive energies and so, they are more blessed with a younger-looking face and a good health.
i wish to be like them. they teach because they want their students to learn. they don't do exhibitions and magics for us to believe in their capacity. they need not prove that they're the best or they are better than anyone. most importantly, despite their degrees and status in life, they are still 'within reach'. schools are training grounds for humans to learn for self-efficiency, not heartless machines to just simply memorize and top the board exams. with professors like them, what school wouldn't be blessed with self-motivated students and board exam topnotchers?

mY hUsbaNd's miStreSs...
LISA MARIE DEL ROSARIO, 25 years old, HRM graduate, working in Singapore for six years, went home in General Santos City for a vacation. She has a long wavy hair, 5’5” in height, and a vital statistics of 34-25- 36. And so, their story goes..
Lisa got Renan’s number from a common friend. She had seen him twice and is willing to be his friend. Lisa is a liberated woman and has an Indian fiancé left in Singapore. She works in three hotels as a front desk supervisor. Living independently and temporarily staying with her Uncle’s family in GenSan, she’s afraid of commitment for having a sister in Dubai who is separated. The Hi’s and Hello’s started it all. Singapore and jobs in Singapore sustained their communication. Then as time passed, the commitment as text mates was established. From text mates to friends, they shared insights about family, their likes and dislikes, their weaknesses and experiences too (family, work, travels, love life).
Eventually, texting became less challenging and expensive so they both agreed to chat. Closeness became very evident. They became intimate friends endlessly sharing ‘anything’ under the sun. Too much familiarity is indeed boring. Cutting the story short, Lisa started it all. Fascinated with her, he also became interested. Loneliness yearns for comfort and for passion. And since they were both lonely (maybe), they found each other. They shared ‘everything’ (as in everything!) using the technology available; in bed, in the bathroom, and wherever their sinful imaginations could reach. Often, the last question both of them ask each other is: ‘HAPPY?’, with a big yes as an answer of course! Passionately, Lisa would always assure him that she would do everything to make him hers, exclusively hers alone. Because of that enduring happiness, the plan to meet personally was set aside.
One time, Lisa dared to call and listened to his moans and etc. Lisa couldn’t help it. The emotions were overwhelming (killing her!). It felt ecstatic yet burns like hell! It was fathomless. Uncovering the mouth piece, she asked softly: Happy? Finally, for the first time he heard her voice over the phone, a very familiar voice. He was suddenly offline. Lisa cried.
It was a few minutes before my 36th birthday. We were chatting earlier until he told me to rest and get ready for my big day, ending our conversation with “I love you and I miss you”. My birthday was welcomed with tears: tears of joy because of my thoughtful room mates who surprised me at exactly 12:01 am and tears of jealousy brought by the ‘joke’ (if i may call it) I started. Call me a fool or crazy as I may seem to be and ask me if I am happy and my answer would still be: yes.
I called Renan. He was speechless. I asked him, “won’t you greet me on my big day?”. With tears in my eyes and a wavering voice, I told him how much I love him and I will do everything to make him mine, ONLY MINE. He couldn’t believe it. I accepted his apology. I apologized too. We talked and renewed our promises till dawn. That’s how we love each other. After all, he fell in love and in lust with the same woman.
lmdelrosario85@yahoo.com? yes Darling, IT WAS ME! ...your wife and at the same time, your mistress!

tHe jOyz & aGonY of tRavELiNg..
thirteen to fourteen long hours of travel is not a joke! swollen legs, backaches, dehydration, headaches, thirst, hunger, sleeplessness or sleepiness (whatever it may be)...
BUT
no room for BOREDOM or tedious dullness!
my body may be surrendering but my heart and brain, NEVER! when i travel, i pray a lot.. although i often sleep on it, i manage to continue despite of the bumps, twists, and fall i always endure.
after each travel, i realize that it was too short for my conversation with HIM. i pray for those i hate - those who offended me intentionally or not. i pray for those who hate me - those i have hurt consciously or unconsciously. i pray for those who care for me - those who told me so that they do and those who did not. i pray for those i cared for - those whom i showed my love and concern and those i forgot to assure. i pray for myself - the 'as if' righteous ME yet full of flaws, the prayerful ME yet weak against temptations, the intelligent ME yet outwitted by the most stupid satan's advocate, the sensitive ME yet unmoved most often by the priest's homily, the talented ME yet busy doing unnecessary things, and the most sinful ME yet always ready to repent, always..
i believe HE doesn't count my prayers and how much time did I spend serving Him and His community. HE LOVES ME FOR WHAT I AM. my prayers were heard. some may not yet be answered but i am waiting because HE KNOWS BEST.
AMEN!? no, not amen yet.. for my prayers were always offered with a warm regards, hugs, and kisses for the first man in my life, my PAPANG. amen? yes, I do believe.. AMEN!

last year, my ex-boyfriend's laboratory result in his annual PE required him to be admitted. he was scheduled for an operation because of kidney stones. the decision was imposed by the physician and it should be done ASAP. thirty minutes before the operation, Renan refused. so, we talked to the doctor and decided to reschedule the operation. it was fear, doubts, and faith that changed Renan's mind. FEAR - probably of the pain, blood, and consequence or effect of the operation. DOUBTS - he haven't felt any discomfort. why is such an operation needed? FAITH - the fear and doubts we felt that time brought that much needed faith. we were so helpless. we did not know what to do.
we went home. we prayed hard. we asked for signs. water, herbs, buko juice, and prayer were the only medicines we depended on. according to the doctor, the stones were already too big for the oral medicines and laser to 'dissolve' (or shrink?). there were two. we still waited for a miracle.
this year's annual PE revealed that there's only one stone left. it gave us hope and the more we believe that another miracle is going to happen.
July 14 , 2010, 5:30 pm : Renan voided the killer stone which was approximately 15 mm! SEE THE PIC? that's not a gem!
everyday is a miracle. it only goes unnoticed. miracles are possible... but only for those who believe!

tO hEavEN wiTh LoVE...
papang.. popsy.. the first man in my life..
how i missed you! a short gaze at your picture makes me cry. i miss your laughter and your voice when you sing.
i fixed the keyboard's adaptor and it's okay now. i hope you heard me sing and play your favorite songs - moonriver, ikaw, i'll always love you, and song for anna. i thought i forgot the musical pieces we once played but my fingers still ran through the keys smoothly. i still play the guitar but it hurts my fingers already.
i'm wondering what keeps you busy up there now. i know the heavenly bodies are taking care of you and you're not in pain anymore. we're happy for you at least. i know you missed us too, especially momsy. do not worry. we'll take care of her.
i miss the way you call me 'pangga' and i missed the way you loved and took care of me. i missed your menu in the kitchen too. its only your cigarette that i don't miss. i still read a lot of books and you know, i always find time to sing now and i often get a score of 100. you're right. i really have a nice voice, hehehe.
though you've changed residence, i could still feel your presence. please continue to watch over us. we still have a lot of polishings to undergo. the world is a little bit sick now and there are lots of calamities anywhere. see? you are luckier. i didn't mean we wanna follow you soon ha. HE's in charge of everything and let His will be done.
see you in my dreams papang. enjoy recalling the good memories with us. we love you so much and we always will.
your one and only,
palanggingging
PS. i seldom drink coffee now but ice cream is still my favorite...

dO i kNoW yOu ?
i received a text message just this morning...
isa lang ang tumatakbo sa utak ko.. and kapal ng mukha mo! it was December 2006 when my cousin, Johannah, left our house and that ended my generosity, by choice.
i started working as a college professor in the year 1997 and that was also the time when i started sending my cousins to school. i could have felt more guilty if i did not for i was an advocate for education.
Rommel was the first in line. He enrolled at NDDU-MTTP as a machinist for one year but after he graduated, he got married.
Next, is Rona. She was with me since first year high school until college. She took up HRM at GSCIT but during her second year in college, i decided to send her back home to Negros Occidental because of attitudinal problems. Sad to say, Rona got pregnant twice and married a 'whatever' after having two kids.
Next, is Frenie. I had to help her become a working student at NDDU for us to survive financially. I already had two children by that time na parehong nagadede. On the last semester before graduation, she got pregnant but eventually, she really did finish her course, Computer Science, and settled down.
i had a few heart aches and resentments and the sacrifices i made were not that rewarding but still i said, one more time! it still feels good to help..
here comes johannah.. among the others, she was the worst. she haven't passed the exams for working students at NDDU but still i enrolled her. she took up Food Technology and her course was quite expensive because of so many baking and cooking sessions. She was supposed to graduate by March 2007 but by December 2006, she asked permission to go to Manila to visit her mother na namamasukan as katulong. i told her to wait for summer na lang. i needed her to stay because i'm giving birth to my third baby by January. we had no extra money and better yet, if they'll just save her fare for her sister's tuition fee. later, her mother called me up explaining why i should allow her daughter to have a grand vacation with her. i begged and made a bargain but she didn't give in. i was just shocked when she told my mother na inaalila daw namin ang anak niya. bakit kelangan pa nya akong siraan sa nanay ko? my mother knew me at siyempre, my parents knew the truth. to cut the story short, nag-away ang mga parents namin. and so, johannah left without saying a word. punyeta! kung hindi lang ako buntis that time, pupuntahan ko sila para pagsampalsampalin! yun ba ang kapalit sa lahat ng mga sakripisyo ko? it was very painful on my part kasi i carried a cross that's not mine but in the end, ako pa ang masama. natauhan ako at yun ang pinakamagandang ginawa ng pinsan ko. i realized that after all, i cannot dream dreams for other people. ang tanga ko talaga, ako at ang parents ko. we could have lived a better life and invest on other things.
walang hiya silang lahat! eldest ang mother ko among five siblings and ever since my world began, my parents are financially supporting them na. kahit nga yung para sa akin siguro napupunta pa sa kanila. may mga apo na ang parents ko pero parang mga linta pa rin sila. kung makahingi ng pera akala mo ay may pinatago sila. puchaks naman!
hayun at namatay na lang ang tatay ko. may naitulong ba sila sa amin? i've been to Negros several times and i have seen their lifestyle. super tamad! they end their days without doing anything. hinding hindi na ako babalik doon. to hell with you!
going back to the text message. my cousin, Johannah, is asking for her transcript of records from NDDU kasi mag-aapply daw siya sa MOA. kapalmuks jud.. haler! may utang pa siyang 6000+ sa school noh! when she left three years ago, dropped lahat ng subjects niya and i have just paid 5000 for enrollment na niloan ko pa sa paluwagan that time.
imagine? when i remember those times na nagkagulo ang pamilya namin, i become a monster. and that was the time when i said, "dili na jud ko mousab!" its time for me to paddle my own canoe..
and my reply to johannah's text message was : do i know you?

a reason to live
2009: everybody's dying! my grandmother, my father, my nephew, my grandfather, one of my friends from high school, three from my neighborhood...and i was grieving. my heart breaks thinking of that big loss.
life has to go on..i've known and heard this adage many times but the question is: HOW?
i never yearned to become rich until the time when my beloved father died from renal failure. it was then that i realized that only the rich people have the right to become sick. i felt so small thinking that cadavers can't be checked out without paying the hospital in full or least, have a guarantor to stand before the claimants. i was bursting in tears seeing my father's body wrapped in white cloth, waiting to be picked up by the time i could find a way... i didn't know how. i am an only child and our relatives are miles away from where we live. it pains me seeing my mother crying on her knees not knowing what to do. i have never felt that agony before and i hated it so much.
i promised myself to be strong. sympathies from friends are helpful but the drive to stay and look calm must come from within me. God has been always with us and prayer was my only weapon. 2009 was a year worth reflecting but i'm not sure if its worth remembering..
right now, i'm pushing my whole being to move on! slow as it might be but i'm hopeful.. this is LIFE! this is a gift- *supposed to be* a priceless opportunity and it must be ended beautifully in His time.
i have countless reasons to live: my mother, my husband, my kids, my friends, my job, my students, the lessons in life that i need to learn, the experiences that i deserve to undergo, and the endless blessings that is yet to come.
i now have a clearer picture of the things that really matters to me.. outlooks will be changed, directions will be detoured, plans will be redirected.. but still, let His will be done.
time heals and as long as there are stars in the skies, there will always be faith, hope and love in my heart.
